Pete the Sheep has bounded from the pages of Jackie French’s iconic book and onto the stage at Monkey Baa theatre in Darling Quarter (opposite Tumbalong Park) this Easter school holidays.

From 6 to 17 April 2021, come and enjoy a funny, engaging, toe-tapping tribute to the tale of a band of Aussie sheep shearers and their loyal hounds, whose world is turned on its head when a new shearer comes to town with a whole tool belt of new ideas. Throwing old traditions out and embracing individuality in every possible way, Pete the Sheep comes to life in the most charming way as the charismatic acting quartet sing, dance and joke their way through the 45 minute production.

Making the most of the intimate space that makes Monkey Baa such a dynamic theatrical experience for the whole family, the actors draw their audience into the performance to really bring you along for this wonderful sheep-shearing ride!

As a side note, having witnessed a real sheep shearing demonstration at neighbouring Calmsley Hill City Farm a mere few weeks ago, I can attest to the authenticity of the techniques employed by the actors in this stage outing of Pete the Sheep. Simply adding to the overall enjoyment of this fantastic play.

COVID Note: Check with the venue about mask-wearing inside the theatre.

Parent Note: There’s heaps of things to do and places to eat around the Darling Quarter/Darling Harbour area. Remember to pack towels and changes of clothes because if your kids are anything like mine they may dive straight for the water fountains at the neighbouring Tumbalong Park playground when you exit the theatre.

Getting to Darling Quarter

Parking
You can pre-book with Wilson Parking via Book a Bay to save on the local carparks. I recommend parking at the Darling Quarter carpark as it’s the closest option. If you end up parking at Zollner Circuit be prepared for a slightly longer journey into the city (something to bear in mind at peak traffic times) and approximately an extra 5-10 minute walk from the theatre.

Bus
For buses travelling through the CBD along Elizabeth, Castlereagh, George or York streets, alight the bus at Market, Park, Druitt, Bathurst or Liverpool streets and walk down towards Darling Harbour.

Train
The closest train station is Town Hall. Exit south onto Bathurst Street. Walk to the bottom of Bathurst, turning left into Day Street. Cross the lights at Harbour Street and you’re in Darling Quarter.

Lightrail
The closest light rail stop is Exhibition.

Ferry
Catch a ferry to Darling Harbour and alight at Darling Harbour Wharf 3 or Pyrmont Bay Wharf.

Babes in Arms
Babies under 2 are welcome to attend shows free on the knee and don’t require a ticket (unless the show is designed for those under 2 years). Babies must remain in their parent’s or guardian’s arms at all times.

Pram Parking
Pram parking is located inside the foyer and outside the theatre. Prams are not permitted inside the theatre. Valuables shouldn’t be left in the pram when unattended.
