Come on a journey of exploration and self-discovery this school holidays with fearless explorer Sir Lionel Frost and his latest discovery, Mr Link, a.k.a. the missing link between ape and man. Headed for America’s Pacific Northwest, Frost is on a mission to make his name and reputation, by proving the existence of this legendary creature; the Sasquatch or Big Foot as many will know him.
With vocal talents from Hugh Jackman, funnyman Zach Galifianakis and Zoe Saldana, Missing Link sees the 8ft and furry Sasquatch in turn enlist the help of Frost to return him to his family in the fabled valley of Shangri-La.
This is a story of two men, albeit one resembling a primate more than the other, both set on their own singular quest. The tendency is for man to be egocentric and narcissistic, intent on achieving his own goals, however misguided and arrogant they may be. One determined to prove his disbelieving peers wrong, the other in search of community; their pursuits may be taking them in separate directions but what they come to discover is ultimately in the same place. Each other.
Galifianakis brings his own brand of comedy to the character of Mr Link; the simple, inexperienced giant to Jackman’s stiff upper lip with an edge. Frost may be partial to a cup of Earl Grey but he’s also pretty nifty with a right hook and a walking cane. From mythical sea monsters to gun-wielding assassins, none are a match for this intrepid adventurer.
The vivacious Adelina Fortnight (Saldana) complements the two male protagonists, acting as a reflective buffer to help Frost see the man he wants to become in his friendship with Mr Link. This is a tale of evolution, but not as Darwin foresaw it.
Steam trains, boats, elephant rides and more, travel across the world with this charismatic trio and uncover lost worlds, legends and love.
Missing Link (PG) is in cinemas from 11 April 2019.
