Who loves Ryan Reynolds?
Everyone wants to be the hero, right? We all exist in the background of life hoping to make our presence known in some way, whether snatching our 15 minutes of fame in a televised talent show or gaining some acclaim via social media, or at the more grass roots stepping in to help someone in need and become the hero or heroine of their reality.
It feels good to wear that mantle.
In this digital driven age, perhaps we believe we really can take ownership of our destiny even if just within the virtual walls we create for ourselves. In new Disney adventure, FREE GUY due to land in cinemas December 2021 (date TBA), Ryan Reynolds stars as a regular guy, working in a regular banking job going about his life… until he finds out he is an extra in an open-world video game. Cue some back-end rejigging as he rewrites the program to become the hero of his own story.
Sure to be a commentary on the evolving cultural and digital landscape we exist in, I am looking forward to seeing how Reynolds handles the hero title - a role I think we can nearly all relate to.
