In cinemas from 21 January, we’re offering 5 lucky readers the opportunity to win a double pass to be one of the first to see the brand new movie starring Naomi Watts, PENGUIN BLOOM.
Based on the best-selling book of the same name, the film tells the real life story of Sam Bloom (played by Watts), a young mother whose world was turned upside down after a near-fatal accident left her paralysed. British actor Andrew Lincoln (This Life, Teachers, Love Actually) steps in as Sam’s husband and Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver plays Sam’s mother.
The film follows the family’s struggle, as together with their three boys, the couple must adjust to their new situation. However the arrival of an unlikely ally shifts their narrative, an injured baby magpie, whom they name Penguin.
A story that has resonated with many, Penguin the Magpie the Instagram account the couple started has attracted over 170k followers. It is a compilation of thousands of stills and videos taken by Sam’s husband, Cameron, a professional photographer who has documented their journey to recovery through his lens.
A second book Sam Bloom: Heartache & Birdsong written by New York Times best-selling author Bradley Trevor Greive and published by ABC Books on 2nd Sept 2020, picks up the story where Grieve’s Penguin Bloom ended, sharing Sam’s own story for the first time.
The movie was filmed in the Bloom house and on the Northern Beaches of Sydney in Aug 2019, with a World premiere at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) in Sept 2020.
